Behavior Change Associates is the private practice of Frank Schwebel, PhD, who is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist (PSY1690) and an expert in the treatment of anxiety, depression, and alcohol and substance use. Although Dr. Schwebel values the importance of research-driven therapy, he ultimately believes that change in therapy happens by supporting and listening to clients and by supporting clients with compassion and validation.
Dr. Schwebel completed his doctoral studies in Clinical Psychology at the University of Washington (UW). He completed his predoctoral internship at the University of Washington Medical Center. Dr. Schwebel received specialized training in the treatment and research of substance use disorders as a postdoctoral fellow at the Center on Alcohol, Substance Use, And Addictions (CASAA) at the University of New Mexico (UNM). Today, he is a Research Assistant Professor at UNM where the primary focus of his work is treating substane use disorder. The focus of his practice is providing cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness-based interventions, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) for anxiety, depression, and/or substance use issues to adults. Dr. Schwebel also holds an appointment in in the UNM Department of Psychology where he supervises clinical psychology graduate students delivering group and individual therapy for people dealing with anxiety, depression, substance use disorder, and other life challenges using CBT and mindfulness-based relapse prevention (MBRP).
